News from Alertacall plus articles and insights on how to enhance outcomes for people with higher needs in the housing, health and social care sectors.
Who is Ian and what is your role?
My name is Ian, I’m originally from Morpeth Northumberland, but moved to Cumbria in 2010 to start university (I started late at 27), and I’ve been living here ever since. I now live in Penrith with my Partner Pete, and our two Labradors Jura and Ben. I’ve been with Alertacall for 7 years. My role at Alertacall is Operational Client Lead.
What does a typical day look like?
I don’t really have a typical day. Each day starts off with a check in with the rest of the operations team where we discuss what our aims are for the day/week. At around 1pm, I break for lunch – and those two things are the only typical things in my calendar! Outside of that, my days are really varied – I can be answering a query from a client one minute, then amending a workflow the next, or helping to introduce a new client to our services.
What do you like most about working at Alertacall?
I really appreciate working for an organisation that really cares about its employees, clients, and service users the way Alertacall does. I need to feel like I’m making a genuine contribution at work, and making a difference to someone. I get that from working at Alertacall.
Outside of Alertacall, what makes you tick?
As a child I was obsessed with David Attenborough documentaries, so it’s no surprise that I did my degree in animal conservation. I still have a real passion for nature and conservation. I also love Arts & Crafts era/Art Nouveau antiques and architecture. I have a growing (my partner uses the word problematic) collection of antique books, the oldest being a collection of plays from 1754.
Tell us one thing we might not know about you
I’m Buddhist (although not always a particularly good one), and have been for about 20 years. I took my refuge ceremony with Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche in 2011 at Samye Ling Monastery.
